City Plaza, one of New Tampa's premiere shopping centers, is sporting a huge void where Publix and three other storefronts stood until this week. Wrecking crews knocked down the stores as part of a major renovation project, leaving a clearing of smooth, packed soil at the center of the plaza. The 48,000-square-foot Publix supermarket at Tampa Palms and Bruce B. Downs boulevards will be replaced with a 54,000-square-foot newer version. The other stores were demolished as part of the Publix expansion. Construction is expected to take about nine months. ...more

The Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in northern Pinellas County has completed a $26 million renovation project and joined the Preferred Hotels & Resorts and the Preferred Golf Club brands. Innisbrook owner Sheila Johnson launched the project immediately after buying the property in July 2007 for about $35 million. ...more
