Public Safety Personnel Honored As Heroes Hillsborough County's law enforcement, fire and rescue, and other public safety officers were honored May 1 at the 14th annual Our Heroes Luncheon, sponsored by Sykes Enterprises. More than 2,000 guests at the Tampa Convention Center watched as representatives from six law enforcement agencies and four fire departments were honored at the Heroes Table. Special recognition was given to Sgt. Ron Harrison, the deputy killed in the line of duty in August 2007. His daughter Ronnee Harrison represented him. Proceeds from the event benefit the Coy L. Sykes Memorial Scholarships, awarded to children of law enforcement personnel. The 2008 scholarship recipients were also recognized. They are Amanda Gilbertsen, James Wolff, Alyssa Martinez, Kaleigh Hill, Daniel Kiefer, Michelle Cimo, Stephen Frey and Tyler Metcalf. ...more
