The biggest changes will hit the College of Arts and Sciences, USF's largest. Although the college gains some institutes that stood alone at the university, it will undergo an administrative overhaul and lose some disciplines to other colleges. ...more

LAKE PLACID — Graduating seniors are finding that admission to a state university is getting tougher as budget cuts force the four-year colleges to reduce or limit enrollment. "We know of many students who had planned to or intended to go to one of the universities, who because of their [admission] restrictions, are coming here first," South Florida Community College President Norman L. Stephens Jr. said Monday. The University of South Florida will freeze its freshmen enrollment at this year's level – 3,700. The Tampa university plans to reduce class offerings and increase class sizes. The University of Florida will cut its undergraduate enrollment by 1,000 students a year for the next four years. ...more

AVON PARK –– Panther Field is a lot like Wrigley Field when the wind is blowing out –– you can expect a high-scoring game. The South Florida Community College baseball team took advantage of the windy conditions to pound out 21 base hits on its way to a 20-8 win over the Tampa University "B" team in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The second game was rained out. "We play in a small yard and when the conditions were like they were, the ball has a chance to travel a long ways," said Panther coach Rick Hitt. "We were fortunate to get some balls up in the air and they got out of the park." ...more
