Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio wants everyone in the city to move. No, not out of the city. But to get up and become physically active. That's the idea behind her Walking With the Mayor events, held twice a year. The next one is Oct. 20. "It's just a great way to show people that, hey, it doesn't take much to get out there and exercise," she says. ...more

It would be nice if the president could read this, to let him know about my grandchildren and my great-grandchildren. Why is there not going to be any money for them to go to the hospital when they get sick? All because of the president. They all have theirs up in Washington, D.C. If they have free insurance, then why can't my grandchildren and great- grandchildren have it, too? Or maybe it's because their dad and mom don't not make the money like they do in the Senate. The ones in the Senate can give themselves a $4,000 raise whenever they want. Maybe if you did not give yourselves raises in there, then you would be able to help us. That is what you are there for. I was doing good until you took my pension away from me. I am a disabled Korean Veteran, or did you forget about the ones who died for you at the time? Look what you did for all of us who went over there and came home; now there isn't any health insurance for our grandchildren, and no jobs for us. They are all overseas now. I need help! ...more

I read many letters to the editor wanting national health care. I, for one, will just say no to more taxes to pay for a government-run health care program. We do not need a 15 percent tax added on to everything such as hair cuts, clothes, motor vehicles, etc., like they have in Canada for substandard medical care. The letters say there are many children without medical insurance. This is bad, but only the parents of these children are to blame for bringing these children in to the world and expecting others to pay all of their expenses. The No. 1 way to reduce medical costs in the United States is to stop all free medical treatment for the 12-plus million illegal immigrants. ...more
